E-Invoicing for Energy Suppliers in Hungary by July 2025

Hungary introduced a B2B e-invoicing mandate for suppliers in the electricity and gas sector, applicable as of 1 July 2025.

The Hungarian government introduced a B2B e-invoicing mandate to businesses in the electricity and natural gas sectors. Originally set to take effect on January 1, 2025, the amendment to Government Decree 273/2007 and Government Decree 19/2009 will now come into force on July 1, 2025.

Under the new mandate, electricity traders, electricity distributors, natural gas traders, transmission system operators, and natural gas distributors must issue invoices B2B exclusively in electronic form. This change aims to modernize invoicing processes and improve tax compliance.

The regulations do not impose specific requirements regarding the content or format of e-invoices. Therefore, it is assumed that any format and exchange method will be valid.
