Netherlands Changes VAT Payment Bank Account from May 2026
The Dutch Tax and Customs Administration moves to new Rabobank account numbers from 1 May 2026. Businesses paying by bank transfer must update their payment details.

Netherlands Changes VAT Payment Bank Account Numbers
A significant administrative change is coming for businesses making VAT payments to the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst). From 1 May 2026, the Belastingdienst will switch its banking relationship from ING to Rabobank, introducing new account numbers for all tax payments. Businesses paying by bank transfer must update their payment information to ensure payments are correctly received after the switchover date.
What Changed from 1 May 2026
From 1 May 2026, the Tax and Customs Administration will use new Rabobank account numbers. The most frequently used new account number is NL04 RABO 0200 1122 44. Additional account numbers will also apply depending on the tax type; the complete list is available here.
For payments made from foreign bank accounts requiring a BIC code, the new BIC to use from 1 May 2026 is RABONL2U. Where the bank system specifically requires an 11-character BIC, the correct code is RABONL2UXXX.
Practical implications for businesses
Depending on the payment method, different scenarios apply. Companies paying via direct debit do not need to take any action, as the authorities will automatically update the debit to the new account number. Those making payments by bank transfer will need to update their payment details with the new Rabobank account number upon receiving official confirmation. VAT refunds require no action either, as the authorities will process them directly from the new account.
